Cevo solo exhibition 「Slow Drip」

Cevo, an Argentine artist based in Stockholm, Sweden, will present his first solo exhibition in Japan, featuring 13 new works. Working exclusively with acrylics on linen, he creates highly detailed, photorealistic cityscapes, each built up through countless layers over hundreds of hours.

The scenes depicted in his paintings are familiar fragments of everyday urban life. Yet no people appear in them. By removing all signs of human presence, Cevo brings into focus the buildings, infrastructure, and quiet traces left behind in the city, revealing another side of the urban landscape.

Underlying this meticulous approach is Cevo’s deep respect for Japanese craftsmanship, which inspires him daily, as well as a commitment to a process that stands in contrast to efficiency and shortcuts. By devoting extensive time to each work and repeatedly building up its layers, he invites us to reconsider the urban landscape from a new perspective.

In Slow Drip, Cevo presents another vision of the city, one that emerges through the patient passage of time. We invite you to experience in person a flow of time distinct from the everyday rhythms we are accustomed to.

Sebastian Scaglione (b. 1991), known professionally as Cevo, is a self-taught Argentinean artist based in Stockholm. His practice centres around large-scale, hyper-detailed figurative cityscapes that merge architectural precision with an anime-inspired surrealism. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, his works often require up to 300 hours to complete.
His ongoing series Otoky, a retro-futuristic study inspired by his first visits to Japan, explores the beauty in the mundane and solitude within densely populated cities. Through meticulously crafted compositions devoid of human presence, Cevo captures a sense of “futuristic nostalgia,” where neon-lit urban environments become the protagonists of silent metropolises.
Driven by admiration for Japanese urbanism and craftsmanship, his work invites viewers to pause within stillness and reflect on the evolution of contemporary cities.
