Goyo Gallery The Collection

Goyo Gallery Enters Its Next Phase:
Nearly Doubled Exhibition Space at TERRADA ART COMPLEX II

Goyo Gallery, a contemporary art gallery based on the 3rd floor of TERRADA ART COMPLEX II in Tennoz, Tokyo (Director: Kenjiro Kimura), will begin operating across two spaces with the addition of a new area starting Saturday, April 11. To mark this occasion, the exhibition “Goyo Gallery The Collection” will be held.

Expanding Against the Current of Downsizing in the Gallery Industry

One year after relocating, this expansion represents a clearer articulation of the direction Goyo Gallery has cultivated through its activities. At a time when online exhibitions and market rationalization are accelerating, gallery downsizing and relocation are becoming increasingly common. In this context, the expansion can be seen as a bold decision that goes against prevailing industry trends.

At the core of Goyo Gallery’s philosophy is the value of experiencing art through direct, physical encounters. In an era driven by efficiency and digitalization, the opportunity to engage with outstanding works within a carefully considered space becomes ever more significant. This expansion marks a new step toward deepening and broadening the art experience.

A Gallery Rooted in a Collection

Goyo Gallery originated from the personal art collection of its owner, Kenjiro Kimura.
Built over many years through a distinctive aesthetic vision, the collection spans generations and genres and continues to expand.

This exhibition presents a carefully selected group of works from that collection and offers insight into the curatorial perspective the gallery has cultivated. Across the existing Gallery I and the newly expanded Gallery II, the program will include cross-sectional presentations of works by the same artist as well as solo exhibitions by different artists. These exhibitions aim to create dialogue, interaction, and new contextual relationships between works.

A Cultural Hub Where Art and Fashion Intersect

One of Goyo Gallery’s defining characteristics is its cultural reach beyond the boundaries of art.
Mitsuaki Nakano, who spent approximately 30 years at the New York-born luxury retailer Barneys New York and built an extensive network in the global fashion scene as a renowned PR figure, joined the gallery as producer in April last year.

With Goyo Gallery as its nucleus, a unique community has emerged that bridges art, fashion, and culture. This network functions not merely as an exhibition venue. It also serves as a dynamic platform where artists, collectors, and creators intersect freely.

Preserving a Space Where Artists Can Take Risks

Goyo Gallery is committed to engaging deeply with each artist’s practice and primarily organizes and presents solo exhibitions. It has attracted attention not only from contemporary art audiences but also from discerning professionals in the fashion industry.

A gallery is not simply a place to exhibit works. It is a stage where artists take on new creative challenges. Goyo Gallery aims to be a place where artists can fully express their vision without restraint and pursue bold, defining achievements.

Maintaining strong relationships with prominent galleries in Japan and abroad, particularly across Asia, Goyo Gallery also supports the international expansion of contemporary artists. Beyond its own exhibitions, it has contributed as an advisor to art projects and exhibitions for leading fashion retailers.

With the opening of the new space, the gallery will refresh its exhibitions on a monthly basis and create more opportunities to engage closely with a wider range of artists. Goyo Gallery remains committed to supporting artists over the long term by believing in their backgrounds, philosophies, and the necessity of their expression. At the same time, it will continue to actively expand understanding and interest in contemporary art.

We invite you to look forward to the next chapter of Goyo Gallery.
