Ken Yashiki https://www.instagram.com/yashiki_ken/
Born in 1983. After graduating from Sugino Fashion College, he worked in the apparel industry before becoming a fine artist.
In 2007, while still a student, he created a kimekomi work using unused towels found at home, winning the Newcomer Award at the JFW JAPAN CREATION TEXTILE CONTEST, which marked the beginning of his professional career.
His exhibitions include PARIS ARTELYSEES (2019), UNIQLO TOKYO (2021), Isetan Shinjuku, and Wacoal Studyhall Kyoto, among others, demonstrating a wide range of activities both in Japan and internationally.
He produces works using the traditional kimekomi technique, originally used in doll-making.
Tatsuya Yokosaka https://www.instagram.com/yokosakatatsuya/
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when he was unable to visit art supply stores, Yokosaka experimented with creating works using materials available at home.
Through a process of using abandoned canvases, plastic clear files, and other everyday items, he began attempting to depict landscapes after the extinction of humanity. By incorporating cel animation techniques into this process, he developed his recent works—completed by layering cel-like images over canvases.
In these works, the anime-inspired landscapes that Yokosaka considers his original scenery are connected to the fear of the unknown brought about by the pandemic, which metaphorically echoed a post-human world. This exploration led to his subsequent body of work.
Yokosaka encapsulates pre-pandemic humanity behind acrylic panels, presenting them as art pieces akin to excavated relics from ancient ruins, while intertwining them with the shared visual language of anime.
As the artist states, “I hope to discover novelty and pleasure in tracing the pathways through which empathy travels.”
By blending diverse cultural elements that form the foundation of empathy, his works evoke both nostalgia and a fresh, humorous sensibility in the viewer.
