【Artist】
Ken Yashiki https://www.instagram.com/yashiki_ken/
Born in 1983. After graduating from Sugino Fashion College, Yashiki worked for an apparel manufacturer before pursuing a career as a visual artist.
In 2007, while still a student, he created Kimekomi works using unused towels found at home. This series won the Newcomer Award at the JFW JAPAN CREATION TEXTILE CONTEST, marking the start of his professional artistic career.
He exhibited at PARIS ARTELYSEES in 2019, and in 2021 showed works at UNIQLO TOKYO, Isetan Shinjuku, and Wacoal Study Hall Kyoto, among other venues. He continues to be active both in Japan and internationally.
His works employ the traditional Kimekomi technique, originally used in the creation of Japanese dolls.
Tatsuya Yokosaka https://www.instagram.com/yokosakatatsuya/
Born in 1981 in Gunma Prefecture. Currently based in Tokyo.
Inspired by traditional cel animation techniques, Yokosaka creates works by layering images drawn on transparent film over painted canvas backgrounds.
In 2021, he presented his work at Tokyo Motorpool 1.5.
“Not to make something, but to make something from something.”
Yokosaka’s works reference not only the shared visual language of animation, but also Japanese pop culture at large. One such reference is the concept of the readymade.
His works give viewers the impression of something already manufactured, while drawing on motifs rooted in his own formative experiences. He continues to challenge immersive forms of expression.
Maho Takahashi(https://www.instagram.com/t.maho_art/)
Born in 1992 in Chiba Prefecture.
All memories and experiences from early childhood form an essential foundation for human development. Taking this as her point of origin, Takahashi depicts young girls whose appearances are simplified to function as mirrors onto which viewers can project themselves, minimizing visual information.
The world she creates serves as a sanctuary for individuals living in a contemporary society saturated with information and material abundance, and can also be seen as a form of prayer.
Unlike the heroes and heroines admired in anime and manga, the simplicity of these figures symbolizes a longing for peace and equality born from an affluent era, presenting a new archetype of the girl.
