Masami Tokuda Solo Exhibition

Masami Tokuda Solo Exhibition
Trees are beings that have lived through long ages.
Their growth rings hold traces carved by the land and unseen memories.
Masami Tokuda approaches wood and lacquer as if listening intently to their quiet voices.
His creation begins not with blueprints or concepts, but with the intuition of his hands.
His understanding of structure, cultivated through furniture making, and his sensitivity to the “aura that emerges only when a vessel is used,” deepened through the tea ceremony.
At the intersection of these two, Tsukuda’s works take shape.
Wood and lacquer are materials that change their expression over time.
Both the luster and the scratches are traces etched by the user’s life;
the work is not merely owned, but moves toward completion by living each day together.
Tokuda asserts that the act of “using” itself
creates the breathing space where beauty lives within daily life,
a relationship as precious as mere appreciation.
His works, which could be called unfinished creations,
transcend the boundary between viewing and using,
presenting us with a new way to engage with beauty.
